Best Garden: Alfred B. and Louise Maclay first planted the captivating ornamental gardens at Alfred B. Maclay Gardens State Park in 1923. The state acquired the property in 1994—1,184 acres of lakes, beautiful gardens and the Maclay home, now a museum open January to April. The park, in Tallahassee (Leon County), offers winding trails surrounded by plush landscaping.
Best Beach: Fort Walton Beach (Okaloosa County) lies in northwest Florida's Emerald Coastline, where its soft, white sand originates from pulverized Appalachian quartz.
Best Resort Hotel: Gaylord Palms Resort & Convention Center in Kissimmee (Osceola County) features four acres of themed restaurants, shops, entertainment, and world-class services and amenities.
Best Golf Course: The recently renovated Key West Golf Club (Monroe County) features 18 holes enveloping more than 200 acres of tropical landscape. Golf legend Reese Jones designed the public course to challenge players of all levels.
Best Golf Resort: Doral Golf Resort & Spa in Miami (Miami-Dade County) features five championship golf courses, five restaurants, luxury spa and accommodations, and a water park for children.
Best Spa: Canyon Ranch Spa Club at Gaylord Palms Resort & Convention Center in Kissimmee (Osceola County) offers unique body wraps, relaxing facials and healing Ayurvedic treatments in the full-service spa.
Best Main Street: Duval Street in Key West (Monroe County) is named for William Pope Duval, Florida's first territorial governor. Duval Street‘s north end is known for its bars and nightlife, while the south end exudes unique accommodations, Gingerbread architecture and interesting shops.
Best Bed & Breakfast Inn: Historic Parker House Bed & Breakfast in Arcadia (Desoto County) offers a peaceful and relaxing getaway in a Victorian setting. It was built in the late 1890s by one of Florida's original cattle barons, Jasper Newton Parker. The house remained in the Parker family until 1995, when it was sold and converted to a B&B.
Best Comedy Venue: Sak Comedy Lab in Orlando (Orange County) puts on hilarious improv shows and offers a variety of classes. Comedian Wayne Brady performed here at the beginning of his career.
Friendliest Small Town: Arcadia (Desoto County) and Havana (Gadsden County) tied for this category. Arcadia is a peaceful town, known for its historic district, lovely bed & breakfasts, the scenic Peace River, and a semi-annual rodeo. Havana, exuding Southern hospitality and charm, offers a relaxed atmosphere, quaint shops and restaurants.
Best Mini Golf: Smugglers Cove Adventure Golf, with five locations in Fort Myers Beach (Lee County), Sarasota (Sarasota County), Bradenton (Manatee County), Indian Shores and Madeira Beach (Pinellas County).
Best Renovated Building: The Custom House, in Key West (Monroe County) was built in 1891. After a nine-year, $9 million restoration, it now houses the Key West Museum of Art & History.
Best Historical Landmark: The Castillo de San Marcos National Monument in St. Augustine (St. Johns County) is the only masonry and only existing 17th century fort in North America. Construction began in 1672 by the Spanish to protect and defend La Florida. Regular reenactments relive the significant events at the Castillo, spanning its 330-year history.
Best Antique Shopping: Micanopy (Alachua County), "the little town that time forgot," features an eclectic selection of antique shops.
Best-Looking Lighthouse: Boca Grande Lighthouse, built in 1890, lies at Gasparilla Island‘s southern tip (Lee County) and houses the Historic Boca Grande Lighthouse Museum. The state took over the land in 1988, and it became Gasparilla Island State Park.
Best Place to Buy a Florida Lottery Ticket: Publix Supermarkets, with 659 stores in Florida, has a long history of selling winning Lotto tickets.
Best Historic District: The Pensacola Historic District in Escambia County is also known as the Seville Historic District. Within the district visitors find Historic Pensacola Village, T.T. Wentworth Jr. Florida State Museum and Seville Square.
Best Theme Park: EPCOT (Orange County) originated as Walt Disney's visionary city of the future. Disney referred to the city as the "Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow," the source of the park's name.
Best Attraction: Gatorland in Orlando (Orange County), the "Alligator Capital of the World," recently opened the Gator Gully Splash Park, which offers more than a quarter-acre of refreshing water to cool visitors.
Best Roller Coaster: The Incredible Hulk Coaster at Universal Studios Islands of Adventure in Orlando (Orange County) is known for instantly launching riders from zero to 40 miles per hour within two seconds.
Best Natural Attraction: The Key West Butterfly & Nature Conservatory is an enclosed and climate-controlled conservatory that contains 50 to 60 butterfly species at any given time. Visitors walk among flowering plants, waterfalls and trees with hundreds of butterflies fluttering around. (Monroe County)
Best Dinner Show/Theater: Medieval Times Dinner & Tournament, in Kissimmee (Osceola County), opened in December 1983 and has offered thrilling entertainment since.
Best Historical Re-enactment: The annual Battle of Olustee reenactment, held at Olustee Battlefield Historic State Park (Baker County), is the largest of its kind in the Southeast. The 2008 reenactment will be held Feb. 15-16.
Best Arts & Crafts Festival: Old Florida Celebration of the Arts in Cedar Key (Levy County) is a juried art show featuring fine art, sculptures, jewelry, photography and more.
Best Florida Rodeo: The Arcadia All-Florida Championship Rodeo, located in Arcadia (Desoto County), will celebrate its 80th annual rodeo March 7-9, 2008.
Best Cultural Festival: The Calle Ocho festival is the culmination of a two-week celebration known at Carnaval Miami. Calle Ocho takes place each March on famous 8th Street in Miami's Little Havana (Miami-Dade). More than a million people attend this 23-block celebration of Latin culture annually.
Best Aquarium: SeaWorld Adventure Park in Orlando (Orange County) offers the chance to view and learn about many species, such as sharks, killer whales, dolphins and penguins. A recent addition arrived in March—a 6-foot-long, 350-pound baby killer whale, expanding SeaWorld's pod to nine whales.
Best Museum: The Key West Museum of Art & History in the historic Custom House, is located in Key West (Monroe County) and features local art and history exhibits.

Best Sign or Billboard: Hog's Breath Saloon is well known for its live entertainment, great food and drinks. The original Hog's Breath was established in 1976 in Fort Walton Beach by Jerry Dorminy. Now, with a location in Destin (Okaloosa County) and another in Key West (Monroe County), Hog's Breath continues to provide good times to Floridians.
Best River/Lake for Canoeing: The Peace River is 106 miles long and passes through Polk, Hardee, Desoto and Charlotte counties.
Best Nature Center: The Blair Audubon Center at Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary in Naples (Collier County) features a tearoom, classrooms, local artwork, a nature store and the Swamp Senses Media Theater. A 2.25-mile raised boardwalk begins at the center, surrounded by natural Florida landscaping.

Best Sunsets: Key West (Monroe County) holds a geographic advantage to provide astonishing sunsets. In Mallory Square, the Sunset Celebration takes place each night—two hours before sunset visitors enjoy arts & crafts exhibitors, street performers, and more.
Best Greenway/Trail: Marjorie Harris Carr Cross Florida Greenway features recreational opportunities for bikers, equestrians, hikers and wildlife enthusiasts. The greenway extends across Putnam, Marion, Citrus and Levy counties.
Best State Park: John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park in Key Largo (Monroe County) is the first underwater park in the country. This 70 nautical-sq.-mile state park is known for its coral reefs, white sand beaches and nature viewing opportunities. The coral reefs can be viewed from a glass-bottom boat tour or up close via scuba diving or snorkeling.
Best Manatee Observation Spot: Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park in Homosassa (Citrus County) is one of the few places where people can view West Indian manatees up close—via the "fish bowl" floating underwater observatory. Three manatee programs, two Wildlife Encounters, and an alligator and hippopotamus program provide educational opportunities for visitors.
Best Orange Grove: Mixon Fruit Farms in Bradenton (Manatee County) has more than just citrus. The "Orange Blossom Express" tram stops by a children's maze, wetlands pond and Justin Mathew's Wildlife Rescue. A gift shop houses a fruit stand, fudge, marmalades, teas and Florida gifts. Guests can enjoy fresh-squeezed juice on the house.
Best Place to Find Shark Teeth: Commonly referred to as the "shark tooth capital of the world," Venice (Sarasota County) is a popular spot for finding prehistoric shark teeth.
Best Shelling Location: Sanibel Island (Lee County) is part of a large plateau extending into the Gulf of Mexico, acting like a shelf for seashells. Every March, the Sanibel Shell Fair & Show celebrates these bountiful shells.
Best Place to Watch Alligators: Paynes Prairie Preserve State Park in Micanopy (Alachua County) has a multitude of observation platforms and wildlife viewing areas to see alligators, bald eagles, bobcat, bison, wild horses and other wildlife.
Best Place to Watch Birds: Apalachicola National Forest spans Liberty, Franklin, Wakulla and Leon counties. The forest contains many stops along the Great Florida Birding Trail. Resident birds include woodpeckers, northern bobwhites and the world's largest concentration of red-cockaded woodpecker colonies.
Best Performing Artist Group: Singer/ Songwriter Jimmy Buffett & his Coral Reefer Band, have played throughout Florida since the 1980s. Buffett's band is currently composed of 11 members, playing diverse instruments such as pedal steel guitar and steel drums.
Best Florida Entertainer/Group: Since 1995, Elvis Impersonator Scott Ringersen has been a regular performer at Elwood's Dixie Barbeque in Delray Beach (Palm Beach County).
Best Legislator: Rep. Marco Rubio is the current Speaker of the Florida House of Representatives. Rubio was a city commissioner for West Miami (Miami-Dade) before his election to the House.
Best Educator: Kathy Young, a second grade teacher at Hickory Creek Elementary in St. Johns (St. Johns County). She previously taught at Julington Creek Elementary, where she was nominated for teacher of the year during the 2004-'05 school year.
Best Florida Band: Southern rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd formed in Jacksonville (Duval County) during the summer of 1964. Major hits such as "Free Bird" and "Sweet Home Alabama" became American anthems, taking this Florida band to national stardom. On Mar. 13, 2006, the band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Best Florida Book: A Land Remembered, by Patrick Smith, was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize in 1984. In all, Smith was nominated three times for the Pulitzer Prize and five times for the Nobel Prize for Literature.
Best Florida Newspaper: The St. Petersburg Times started in 1884 as a country weekly entitled West Hillsborough Times. Today, the paper is owned and operated by the Poynter Institute for Media Studies, a non-profit educational institution. (Pinellas County)
Best Weekly Paper: The Florida Keys Keynoter, in Marathon (Monroe County), was founded in 1953 by Edgar Seney Jr. The paper consistently receives awards from the Florida Press Association, which awarded the Keynoter with a best newspaper in Florida designation for its circulation division in 2006.
Best Florida Newspaper Columnist: Jeff Klinkenberg of the St. Petersburg Times (Pinellas County) writes about Florida culture in his column, "Real Florida."
Best Florida Artist: Guy Harvey, widely known for his vibrant, marine-themed artwork, is an artist, scientist, conservationist, diver, angler and explorer. Dr. Harvey, who enjoys spending time at his home in Fort Lauderdale (Broward County), teamed up with the Oceanographic Center of Nova Southeastern University to establish the Guy Harvey Research Institute in Dania Beach.
Best College Football Team: The University of Florida Gators in Gainesville (Alachua County) took home the NCAA national championship title this past season.
Best College Basketball Team: The University of Florida Gators men's basketball team won the national championship in 2006 and 2007.
Best College Baseball Team: The University of Florida Gators baseball program started in 1912 and holds a strong history of athletic distinction and five appearances at the College World Series.
Best Pro Basketball Team: The Miami Heat took home the 2006 NBA championship title as the third team in NBA history to ultimately win the championship after losing the first two games in the final series. (Miami-Dade)
Best Pro Baseball Team: The Florida Marlins, in Miami (Miami-Dade County), won the World Series in 1997 and 2003. They are the youngest team in major league baseball to win the Series.
Best Pro Football Team: The Jacksonville Jaguars (Duval County), coached by Jack Del Rio, have ranked 4th in yards allowed and 3rd in points allowed over the past four seasons.
Best Annual Sporting Event: The University of Florida versus Florida State University football game is by far the most anticipated sporting event in the state. It is scheduled for Nov. 24 this year at The Swamp.
Best High School Athletic Program: Coral Shores High School, located in Tavernier (Monroe County), features programs in football, basketball, track, cross-country, baseball, softball, swimming, volleyball, soccer and lacrosse.
Best Motorsport Event: Daytona International Speedway hosted the first Daytona 500 race in 1959. Almost 50 years later, the Daytona 500 is NASCAR's biggest and most celebrated race. The 2008 Daytona 500 will take place Feb. 17 in Daytona Beach (Volusia County).
Best Radio Morning Team: Harris, Webb & Taylor comprise A.M. Tampa Bay, 970 WFLA's morning show. (Hillsborough County)
Best Radio Station: Tampa's 970 WFLA AM is a Fox News Radio affiliate and broadcasting home of University of South Florida football games.
Best Talk Radio Station: Featuring programs hosted by the likes of Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh, 970 WFLA AM in Tampa is known for offering some of the best talk radio on local and national issues.
Best Public Radio Station: Florida State University's WFSU 88.9 FM first went on air Jan. 21, 1949, in Tallahassee (Leon County). Today, WFSU broadcasts news, information and music to Tallahassee, Panama City and surrounding areas.
Best Local Meteorologist: Tom Terry is WFTV Channel 9's chief meteorologist. He holds the "Seal of Approval" from the American Meteorological Society. Terry delivers weather forecasts from the Orlando-based station in Orange County.
Best Local TV Anchor: Greg Warmoth is co-anchor of WRDQ's Eyewitness News This Morning. WRDQ, a WFTV-affiliate in Orlando (Orange County), is one of the few stations in the country to broadcast local news in high definition. Warmoth joined WFTV in 1986 and served as weekend sports anchor for 11 years before switching to morning news anchoring. Father to three sons, Warmoth is active in youth sports and charitable functions such as the "Tee Up for Life" golf tournament. Warmoth also can be seen in the movie Armageddon, playing the role of a Kennedy Space Center reporter.
Best Local TV News Station: NBC-affiliate WESH Ch. 2 in Orlando (Orange County) first broadcast in 1956. WESH offers Central Floridians the latest local and national news, weather, sports, entertainment, and politics.

Best Truck: The Ford F-150 boasts the highest towing capacity of any truck in its class, plus largest payload and biggest cargo volume. The F-150 has been America's best-selling truck for the past three decades.
