About the Cover:
Russian Girl by Carl von Wenig (1830-1908), painted
1889. Oil on canvas, 117" x 75". This
canvas portrays a boyar's daughter in national
dress. First exhibited at the Imperial Academy
of Arts, it enjoyed great success with the public. It
is an excellent example of an academic interpretaton
of the Neo-Russian style popular in the 1880s and
1890s. The painting is part of the Russian Odyssey:
Riches of the State Russian Museum exhibit, running
through April 11 at the Florida International Museum
in St.Petersburg.
